June 24 - San Juan Bautista

Objurgatory model and advocate of marital fidelity

San Juan Bautista received the highest praise our Lord Jesus Christ did: "I tell you: Among those born of women there is none greater than John" (Luke 7-28).

St. John the Baptist beheaded In this month when the Church celebrates his feast, we should recall the attitude that San Juan Bautista was in relation to King Herod for his adultery with Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip:

"And so that time Herod having laid hold of John, had chained and thrown into prison because of Herodias, the wife of Philip, his brother. Because he would say John: It is wrong to have it. "(Matthew, 14, 3-5)

John's words and praise of Our Lord, show us what should be the attitude of a Catholic front of adultery and divorce so that no more than adultery in installments.

Juan had no false prudence, nor tolerant temporizing or hesitant smiles. The king rebuked their sin: "It is not lawful."

In this "It is not lawful", we recognize the tone of voice of all those who before the service do not hesitate to confront him and call him by name. It is the voice of consistency and the light of truth. It's the same voice that centuries later, in similar circumstances, gave St. Thomas More to King Henry VIII, founder of the Anglican church, "It is not lawful."

These days we live in the new "kings" of money or political power, hold the vice of adultery and laws enshrined for all to practice, how necessary would be to hear the voice and the timbre of a John the Baptist! "It is not lawful."

We hope that San Juan Bautista arises souls with the righteousness of conscience and strength of voice, in front of the family laws that are passing, to rise with the seriousness that the circumstances require and the authority given lessons of our Lord Jesus Christ and proclaim without fear: "It is not lawful."
